Malaysia Airlines has proudly unveiled its new route connecting Kuala Lumpur to Kolkata (CCU), marking another significant step in the airline’s ongoing mission to enhance connectivity between Malaysia and key South Asian destinations. The inaugural flight, MH184, took off from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) at 9:45 PM local time, adding Kolkata to the growing network of Indian cities that Malaysia Airlines serves in partnership with IndiGo. With this new service, passengers now have more travel options, as Malaysia Airlines expands its reach to 16 destinations across India.
The inaugural flight was operated by a Boeing 737-800, which saw a remarkable load factor of 93%, reflecting strong demand from travelers eager to visit the cultural hub of Kolkata. As a gesture of appreciation, all passengers onboard were gifted a Malaysia Airlines-themed travel pouch and had the opportunity to capture memories at a custom-designed photo booth. The return flight, MH185, departed Kolkata at 12:10 AM and touched down in Kuala Lumpur at 6:40 AM local time, with an equally impressive load factor of 91%.
The festive atmosphere at Gate C2 ahead of the inaugural flight was a delightful fusion of Indian traditions and Malaysian hospitality. The pre-departure event featured traditional chai served to passengers, accompanied by soothing Indian music, providing an immersive cultural experience. The event was attended by representatives from Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), including Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi, CEO of Malaysia Airlines, and Dersenish Aresandiran, the airline’s Chief Commercial Officer.
This new route marks an exciting chapter for Malaysia Airlines, as it continues to expand its footprint in South Asia, offering travelers enhanced options and reinforcing its commitment to connecting the world with Malaysia’s unparalleled hospitality.
Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi highlighted the importance of this route by saying, “We are delighted to recommence direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and the bustling metropolis of Kolkata, strengthening the bond between Malaysia and India while opening exciting opportunities for both leisure and business travellers.
