Adelaide’s tallest skyscraper, the Keystone Tower, recently received approval, marking a significant milestone in the city’s urban evolution. The 183-meter tower on North Terrace had its development application submitted in January, with hopes for approval by March. Despite some delays, the State Commission Assessment Panel (SCAP) has now given the green light, allowing construction to commence.

Keystone Tower is set to redefine Adelaide’s skyline as the city’s first genuine skyscraper, standing 45 meters taller than the current titleholder, the Crowne Plaza on Frome Street. The project includes a 238-room hotel under Marriot International’s Westin Hotels brand, along with office spaces, a business lounge, function areas, a wellness center, and an observatory on the top levels. The adjacent Freemason’s heritage building will be fully restored as part of the development, preserving its historical significance.

Project Director Henry Davis revealed that the project managers are exploring the possibility of offering an abseiling attraction down the side of the building. This potential feature is aimed at providing an enduring thrill for the public, allowing visitors to experience Adelaide from unique vantage points.

Market Square Development

The $400 million Market Square development began demolition and construction works on 1 June 2023. This 39-story development will include new retail spaces, a seven-level all-electric commercial office tower, a childcare center, luxury residences, a hotel, and a garden retreat. According to ICD Property, which is collaborating with the City of Adelaide on this project, 98% of the residences sold within the first few weeks of launch.

Entrepreneur and Innovation Centre (EIC)

The $400 million Entrepreneur and Innovation Centre (EIC) at Lot Fourteen is set to commence construction in 2024. This 16-level, 41,000 square meter building will serve as a central hub for defense, space, and hi-tech businesses, education, and research institutions. The Innovation Hub, designed to meet the secure environment needs of these sectors, will be the flagship building at the site.
