Airside, an Entrust Company and leader in privacy-based digital identity, has announced the launch of the world’s first fully operational pre-processing biometric border crossing program in collaboration with the Government of Curaçao and Vision-Box, an Amadeus company.
A New Era of Secure and Contactless Travel
Visitors to Curaçao can now enjoy a streamlined, contactless journey through the innovative Curaçao Express Pass program. This initiative, which aligns with Curaçao’s vision of prioritizing traveler experience and data privacy, allows visitors to share passport data securely with border control officials via the Airside Digital Identity App.
Enhanced Efficiency at Curaçao International Airport
The program significantly reduces traveler processing times by more than 50%. Upon arrival at Curaçao International Airport (CUR), pre-processed travelers use contactless eGates, powered by Vision-Box technology, to expedite clearance. This seamless process eliminates the need for traditional document checks and border control interactions.
Revolutionizing Travel Security
“Most of what you do at an eGate can now be done on your phone in just a few clicks,” said Adam Tsao, Founder of Airside. The Airside Digital Identity App ensures travelers remain in control of their personal information while enhancing the overall travel experience.
Economic Impact and Future Developments
Tourism is a vital part of Curaçao’s economy, contributing significantly to its financial health. In 2023, the island saw 582,409 stayover visitors, generating an economic impact of $1.4 billion. The new border crossing system is expected to further boost tourism efficiency and security, with plans to extend the solution to departures from Curaçao by late 2024.
Entrust’s Leadership in Secure Travel Solutions
Entrust’s recent acquisition of Onfido, which included Airside, positions the company at the forefront of secure travel solutions. Combining Airside’s expertise in digital identity with Entrust’s capabilities in secure credential issuance, the partnership is set to drive the global adoption of contactless border control systems.
