Major travel disruption has struck Mexico City International Airport as thick fog forces over 40 flight cancellations. Airlines including Delta, Turkish Airlines, LATAM, Aeroméxico, and Volaris are grappling with the impact, leaving travelers facing delays, rescheduled itineraries, and uncertainty. The adverse weather conditions have severely reduced visibility, disrupting operations and causing widespread inconvenience.
Thick fog blanketing the Valley of Mexico has created chaos at Mexico City International Airport (AICM) and Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA). Reduced visibility, measured at just one-eighth of a mile, forced the suspension of many operations, leaving passengers grappling with cancellations and delays.
A total of 41 flights have been cancelled, and 128 others delayed, as reported by FlightAware. Airlines including Aeroméxico, Turkish Airlines, Volaris, LATAM Airlines, and Delta have seen widespread disruptions, with delays lasting up to three hours in some cases.
Officials noted that the dense fog forced the airport to operate under “meteorological minimums,” a safety protocol that requires flights to be postponed until conditions improve. AICM announced that flights may gradually resume by 9:00 a.m., contingent on weather improvements, but travelers should brace for further disruptions.
The airport has urged passengers to maintain communication with their airlines for updates and to prepare for extended waiting periods. While airlines work to accommodate affected passengers, the ripple effect of these delays is expected to persist throughout the day.
AICM assured travelers that safety remains their highest priority as they navigate these challenging weather conditions.
