Reading Time: 2 minutes
The Paris Olympics are nearly here, but it’s not too late to plan your trip. Even if you missed the initial ticket sale, there are still opportunities to catch the Games live. Here’s how you can still join in the excitement.
Getting Tickets
Almost 10 million tickets for the Olympic Games and nearly 3.4 million for the Paralympic Games are available. You can purchase tickets on the official platforms: tickets.paris2024.org for standard tickets and hospitalitytravelpackages.paris2024.org for hospitality packages. The “Paris 2024 Tickets” app allows you to access your tickets, transfer them to others, and resell them securely. Remember, tickets can only be purchased by individuals aged 16 and over, and unauthorized sale or resale outside official channels can lead to civil and criminal charges under Article 313-6-2 of the French Criminal Code. Children under 16 can attend the Games if accompanied by an adult.
Paralympics Tickets
The Paralympic Games, running from August 28 to September 8, also have tickets available starting at €15. The booking process is similar to the Olympics, with tickets offered on a first-come, first-served basis through the official website.
Avoid Scams
Ensure you buy tickets only from the official Paris 2024 ticketing website. French police have identified 338 fraudulent ticket sites since March 2023, with 51 shut down and 140 receiving formal notices.
Travel and Accommodation Tips
It’s not too late to book travel, with Eurostar and budget airlines offering return fares under £200 during the first week of the Games. For accommodation, there’s still availability in Paris, including popular spots. Consider whether to pay more for a central location to avoid higher transport costs during the Games, as metro tickets will nearly double in price, and trains will be crowded. Alternatively, staying in outer arrondissements or nearby towns could offer a quieter experience. Using price comparison websites, checking for last-minute cancellations, and flexible travel dates can help secure better deals.
Beyond Paris
If you’d prefer to avoid Paris, consider attending events in other host cities like Lyon, Saint-Etienne, Nice, Bordeaux, Nantes, and Marseille, or even the surfing events in Tahiti. These locations may be less crowded and offer a different experience of the Games.
The Paralympics Experience
The Paralympics, often overshadowed by the Olympics, offers a more relaxed and affordable option for experiencing the Games. It promises a less crowded and potentially more enjoyable experience.
Enjoying Paris Without Tickets
Even without tickets, a trip to Paris during the Olympics could still be worthwhile. The city will be vibrant with activity, and some areas may be quieter than usual as locals leave for the summer. Consider guided tours for cultural attractions, ensuring you have secured access and are aware of any potential road closures or access changes due to the Games. Remember, security will be heightened, and getting around might take longer than usual.
Whether you’re catching the Games or simply soaking up the atmosphere, there’s still plenty of time to plan your perfect Paris Olympics experience.
