Denbighshire’s tourism sector has experienced a significant rise in 2023 compared to the previous year. According to the latest figures from the STEAM (Scarborough Tourism Economic Activity Monitor), the total number of visitors to Denbighshire in 2023 reached an impressive 6.39 million, marking an increase of nearly 6% (5.9%) over the 2022 figures.
The STEAM data further reveals that the number of day visitors to Denbighshire in 2023 was 4.72 million, reflecting a notable 7.5% increase compared to 2022. This influx of tourists has had a substantial economic impact on the county, with the total economic contribution of tourism reaching £736.05 million, representing a significant 17.1% rise from the previous year.
The STEAM model is a comprehensive tourism economic impact assessment process that evaluates tourism from a grassroots level. It utilizes local supply-side data and tourism performance metrics, as well as visitor survey data, to paint a detailed picture of the tourism landscape.
Councillor Jason McLellan, Leader of the Council and Lead Member for Economic Growth & Tackling Deprivation, expressed his enthusiasm for the positive trends in Denbighshire’s tourism sector. He stated, “Denbighshire boasts stunning coastal areas and scenic rural patches, making it a well-rounded destination for tourists from near and far. We are pleased to welcome the increased tourism figures for Denbighshire year on year, which underscore the importance of tourism to the local economy and the resilience and recovery of the tourism industry after challenging times.”
