In a groundbreaking move, the Saudi Red Sea Authority (SRSA) has issued its inaugural yacht chartering licenses, marking a pivotal step in the Kingdom’s ambitious coastal tourism development. This strategic initiative is in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to diversify the economy, enhance tourism offerings, and attract foreign investment, all while positioning Saudi Arabia as a global hub for marine tourism.
For the first time in Saudi history, three companies have been granted the right to operate yacht charters in the Red Sea region. The awarded companies—Hill Robinson Saudi Limited, Faisal M. Higgi & Associates Co. Ltd, and JLS Yachts Limited—are now authorized to offer premium yachting services under a newly established regulatory framework. The issuance of these licenses follows the guidelines set forth in SRSA’s Large Yacht Chartering Regulation, ensuring that operations meet rigorous standards for safety, environmental sustainability, and maritime compliance.
The move is a key part of SRSA’s broader mission to shape the future of Saudi Arabia’s coastal tourism sector. Beyond licensing yacht charters, the Authority is tasked with creating and implementing policies that regulate all marine tourism activities, including the operation of marinas, and guiding investments in the sector. SRSA’s proactive approach aims to develop the Kingdom’s vast coastlines into a world-class destination for luxury maritime tourism, catering to both local and international visitors.
To ensure the integrity and safety of yacht charter operations, SRSA conducted comprehensive checks of the companies’ compliance with national regulations and international standards. This process involved ensuring the seaworthiness of the yachts, as well as confirming adherence to strict safety protocols and environmental protection measures.
The introduction of yacht chartering licenses is set to have a profound impact on the Kingdom’s tourism ecosystem. It is expected to expand the variety of leisure activities available to tourists, increase foreign and domestic investment, and elevate the overall profile of Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea region as a sought-after travel destination. Additionally, the growth of the yacht sector will generate new job opportunities and further contribute to the diversification of the national economy.
This milestone is part of SRSA’s ongoing efforts to regulate and enhance Saudi Arabia’s marine tourism infrastructure, which includes issuing licenses for tourism maritime agents and managing the development of marinas along the Red Sea coastline. As the Kingdom looks to attract more international visitors, the launch of yacht chartering services is a significant step towards creating a thriving coastal tourism industry.
With the launch of these licenses, SRSA is positioning Saudi Arabia as a new leader in luxury coastal experiences, setting the stage for a sustainable and vibrant marine tourism sector.
